Interleukin-31 receptor subunit alpha (IL-31RA) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IL31RA gene, also known as IL-31 receptor subunit alpha. The IL-31RA belongs to the type I cytokine receptor family. The 732 amino acid (aa) IL-31 RA contains signal sequence, extracellular domain (ECD), transmembrane domain and cytoplasmic domain. IL-31RA with homology to gp130, is expressed on monocytes, and is involved in IL-31 signaling via activation of STAT-3 and STAT-5. IL-31 RA is also expressed on keratinocytes, dorsal root ganglia neurons, and variably on lung epithelial cells. IL-31RA functions either as a monomer, or as part of a receptor complex with oncostatin M receptor (OSMR).
