DCTN2, also known as Dynactin 2, is an important protein involved in cellular transport. DCTN2 is a component of the Dynactin complex, which is associated with the microtubule system in cells. It serves as a bridge between the Dynactin complex and Dynein, a protein responsible for transporting cellular organelles, RNA, and proteins along microtubules. The Dynactin complex, which includes DCTN2, is essential for various cellular functions such as the transport of the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi apparatus, the centripetal movement of lysosomes and endosomes, spindle formation, chromosome movement, nuclear positioning, and axonogenesis. DCTN2 plays a crucial role in the positioning and transport of organelles within the cell. By interacting with other components, it regulates the normal functioning of the cell. DCTN2 is also involved in the formation and maintenance of flagella, which are cellular protrusions responsible for cell movement and environmental sensing.
