ECI1 encodes a member of the hydratase/isomerase superfamily. The protein encoded is a key mitochondrial enzyme involved in beta-oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids. It catalyzes the transformation of 3-cis and 3-trans-enoyl-CoA esters arising during the stepwise degradation of cis-, mono-, and polyunsaturated fatty acids to the 2-trans-enoyl-CoA intermediates. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
Human Enoyl-CoA delta isomerase 1, mitochondrial (DCI) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate DCI in samples. An antibody specific for DCI has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyDCI present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for DCI is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of DCI bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
