Company Panelists to Discuss Next Generation Sequencing, iPS Cells, Nanotechnology and Other Transformational Technologies
Life Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: LIFE), a provider of innovative life science solutions, will be engaging partners, customers and industry peers in thought-provoking dialogue on major trends and opportunities, including the $1,000 genome and induced pluripotent stem cells during the 2009 BIO International Convention from May 18-21 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
Life Technologies (booth #2123) will host a panel discussing technologies that will enable the sequencing of the entire human genome for $1,000 as well as the ethical implications of rapid, economical DNA sequencing. The company is also hosting a panel that will outline the latest advancements in induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells, in which scientists can manipulate adult cells such as skin cells and drive them into a state where they can differentiate into any tissue type. They will also discuss science policy in the overall context of stem cells.
"Life Technologies is a leader in developing the advances that are revolutionizing science and medicine,” said Greg Lucier, Chairman and CEO of Life Technologies. “We recognize the need to engage industry leaders in an honest dialogue about the technologies as well as the social and ethical implications around these advances. This convention is an excellent opportunity to spark that conversation.”
As a part of the panel on iPS cells, titled “Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Revisited – Where Are We Now and Where Are We Going?” panelists are encouraging interested parties to submit questions about iPS cells before the discussion. Questions from people who will not be in attendance will be answered on Life Technologies’ Invitrogen Web site based on responses from the panelists during the conversation. Questions can be submitted at www.invitrogen.com/ipsc/bio2009 with the panelist’s slides and answers posted after the discussion.
Commitment to Education
During the 2009 BIO International Convention, Life Technologies will emphasize its commitment to education. The company continues its sponsorship of the Biotechnology Institute Genzyme-Life Technologies Biotech Educator Award. This year marks the fifth year that Life Technologies has supported the award, which recognizes teachers who bring biotechnology to their classrooms to help improve the teaching and learning of biotechnology.
Expert Panelists on Diagnostics and Transformational Technologies
In addition to Life Technologies’ focus on next generation sequencing, iPS cells and education, the company will showcase its strength in the biotech workforce, molecular diagnostics, nanotechnology and transformational technologies on four separate panels.
