SP Scientific Announces Hands-On Training Courses in Freeze Drying Optimization

Hits:1160   Date: 4/14/2011
SP Scientific has announced the Spring 2011 dates for its popular hands-on laboratory training courses in freeze drying techniques.

Organised and run by a panel of internationally acknowledged experts in association with SP Scientific, the new training courses have been designed to enable people involved with lyophilisation, at all levels of experience, to gain considerable benefit and network with fellow professionals.

'Lyophilization Cycle Development & Optimization: A Laboratory Based Approach' is a hands-on training course delivered by Dr Jeff Schwegman with guest lecturer, Dr Michael Pikal, that will focus on following the freeze drying process from formulation and thermal analysis to cycle development and optimization, packaging and troubleshooting.  Attendees will have the chance to optimize their learning experience by using tangible applications in a controlled setting.

'Freeze Dry Cycle Development and Optimization Using a Design Space Approach' is a hands-on training course delivered by Dr Steven Nail and Lisa Hardwick designed to enable participants to develop and optimize a primary drying cycle using a design space approach that includes both product imposed and equipment imposed limitation on the process.  Two PAT tools (TDLAS and MTM) facilitate the measurement of vial heat transfer coefficients and resistance of the dry layer to flow of water vapor.   These values are used, in conjunction with heat and mass transfer equations, to compute the design space.  This approach minimizes trial and error experimentation and gives optimal cycle conditions, which are defined as conditions that provide a maximum sublimation rate which is within the capability of the equipment and produces a pharmaceutically acceptable product.

For further information or to reserve a place on the hands-on training courses due to be held in Stone Bridge, NY on May 2-4th and May 5-7th please visit www.spscientific.com/LabTraining or contact SP Scientific on +1-845-255-5000 x2445 / cindy.reiter@spscientific.com.
