China hopes to enhance co-op with GE in eco-friendly technologies

BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhua) -- China hopes to enhance cooperation with U.S. firm General Electric (GE) to explore eco-friendly technologies, said Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan on Monday.

In his meeting with visiting GE Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Immelt to mark the 100th anniversary of GE doing business in China, Zeng expressed his appreciation for the launch of GE's "ecomagination" program in China.

Announced in May 2005, ecomagination is GE's strategic initiative to address society's need for cleaner, more efficient sources of energy, reduced emissions and more clean water in ways that enable both GE and its customers to be successful businesses.

The program aims to explore new environmental protection and energy-efficient technologies with Chinese enterprises and research institutes.

Zeng said the initiative is in line with the goal of China's national drive to build a resource-saving and environmentally-friendly society. He hopes GE will introduce advanced energy-saving technologies to China, and jointly explore energy-efficient products in a bid to contribute to world-sustained development.

On the same day, Vice-Premier Zeng met with Richard Fuld, chairman and CEO of the Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., a well-known investment consulting company in the world. He said China welcomes foreign capital's participation in the Chinese market and cooperation with Chinese enterprises, and bringing advanced experience of risk management to the country.

Zeng said he hopes intermediary organizations such as renowned investment banks would introduce to the outside the real situation of Chinese enterprises and their sincerity for cooperation.

He expected these intermediary organizations and Chinese enterprises can realize mutual benefits and common development.
