VSNL1 is a member of the visinin/recoverin subfamily of neuronal calcium sensor proteins. The protein is strongly expressed in granule cells of the cerebellum where it associates with membranes in a calcium-dependent manner and modulates intracellular signaling pathways of the central nervous system by directly or indirectly regulating the activity of adenylyl cyclase. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed, but their full-length nature has not been determined. The (CA)n microsatellite repeat embedded in the 3-prime untranslated region of the gene was conserved between rat and human, along with the flanking DNA sequences. By genetic linkage studies in 11 CEPH families, they mapped the VSNL1 gene to 2p.
Human Visinin-like protein 1 (VSNL1) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate VSNL1 in samples. An antibody specific for VSNL1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyVSNL1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for VSNL1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of VSNL1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
