Selective detection of apoptotic cells, rather than necrotic cells or cells with DNA strand breaks caused by irradiation and drug therapy.
The TUNEL method can perform in situ staining on intact single apoptotic cell nuclei or apoptotic bodies, accurately reflecting the typical biochemical and morphological characteristics of cell apoptosis. It can detect a very small number of apoptotic cells and is therefore widely used in the study of cell apoptosis.
