Ethylene glycol stearate dissolves or emulsifies upon heating in surfactant complexes , and during cooling, it precipitates lens-like crystals, thus producing a pearlescent luster. In liquid detergents, it produces a noticeable pearlescent effect, increases product viscosity, and also moisturizes skin, nourishes hair, and has antistatic properties. It exhibits good compatibility with other types of surfactants, demonstrating a stable pearlescent effect and thickening and conditioning functions. It is used in shampoos, bath liquids, moisturizing creams, and high-grade liquid detergents. It can also be used as a pearlescent dispersant, solubilizer, lubricant in pharmaceutical production, and in metalworking detergents and fiber processing. When the product is prepared using cold mixing, the pearlescent flakes must be pre-formed into a pearlescent paste .
