MTFR1 encodes a mitochondrial protein that is characterized by a poly-proline rich region. A chicken homolog of this protein promotes mitochondrial fission and the mouse homolog protects cells from oxidative stress. A related pseudogene of this gene is found on chromosome X.Conventional fluorescence and confocal localization of CHPPR shows that CHPPR is sorted to mitochondria. Furthermore, immunoelectron microscopy of CHPPR transfected cells demonstrates that this protein is mostly associated with the mitochondrial inner membranes. Careful analysis of CHPPR expressing cells reveals, instead of the regular mitochondrial tubular network, the presence of a number of small spheroid mitochondria.
Human Mitochondrial fission regulator 1 (MTFR1) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MTFR1 in samples. An antibody specific for MTFR1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyMTFR1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MTFR1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MTFR1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
