NELL2 encodes a cytoplasmic protein that contains epidermal growth factor (EGF) -like repeats. The encoded heterotrimeric protein may be involved in cell growth regulation and differentiation. A similar protein in rodents is involved in craniosynostosis. An alternative splice variant has been described but its full length sequence has not been determined.NELL2 open reading frame encodes an 816-amino acid polypeptide. The amino acid sequence of NELL2 showed 80% identity to that of chicken 'nel,' and Watanabe et al. (1996) stated that NELL2 may be the actual interspecies homolog of the 'nel' gene. NELL2 was strongly expressed as a 3.6-kb transcript in human adult and fetal brain tissues.
Human Protein kinase C-binding protein NELL2 (NELL2) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate NELL2 in samples. An antibody specific for NELL2 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyNELL2 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for NELL2 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of NELL2 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
