    DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They are implicated in a number of cellular processes involving alteration of RNA secondary structure such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly. Based on their distribution patterns, some members of this family are believed to be involved in embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division. DDX4 encodes a DEAD box protein, which is a homolog of VASA proteins in Drosophila and several other species. DDX4 is specifically expressed in the germ cell lineage in both sexes and functions in germ cell development. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for DDX4.

    Human Probable ATP-dependent RNA helicase DDX4 (DDX4) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate DDX4 in samples. An antibody specific for DDX4 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyDDX4 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for DDX4 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of DDX4 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
