Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the mature enzyme. This enzyme may degrade collagen type IV, fibronectin, fibrinogen, and beta-casein, and activate matrix metalloproteinase-9 by cleavage. The protein differs from most MMP family members in that it lacks a conserved C-terminal protein domain. The encoded protein may promote cell invasion in multiple human cancers.
Human Matrix metalloproteinase-26 (MMP26) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MMP26 in samples. An antibody specific for MMP26 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyMMP26 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MMP26 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MMP26 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
