NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Thermo Fisher Scientific said today that it has licensed technology from ActivX Biosciences that it plans to use to develop new mass spectrometry analysis and sample enrichment tools.

The Activity-Based Protein Profiling (ABPP) technology that Thermo Fisher licensed can be used for accurate and broad activity-based profiling of several enzyme families in any biological samples, the company said.

The agreement with ActivX Biosciences gives Thermo Fisher the rights to market and sell tools using the ABPP technology worldwide. These products will include Thermo Scientific Pierce ABPP kits for profiling major enzyme classes including serine hydrolases and proteases, ATPases, Kinases, and G-proteins, which should be available during 2010, the company said.

Thermo Fisher said that ActivX will retain the use of ABPP for its KiNativ mass spectrometry services, Xhibit proteomic-based profiling technologies, and immunoassay formats.
