New ECM-coated Tissue Culture Plates Improve Cell Growth and Differentiation

Hits:2494   Date: 12/11/2008

Millipore has introduced a new line of tissue culture plates pre-coated with a selection of matrices that enhance cell growth and differentiation for stem cell, cancer, cell signaling and other critical research applications.

New Millicoat™ Cultureware are 6- or 24-well tissue culture plates that have been pre-coated with either protein or synthetic coatings including Collagen, Fibronectin, and Poly-D-Lysine.

ECM proteins provide a substrate necessary for many fastidious cells to attach to a surface. Studies show that anchorage-dependent cells growing on ECM undergo more efficient plating; have higher proliferation rates; reach a higher density; require lower serum and growth factor concentrations; and demonstrate enhanced differentiation potential. ECM is critical for the in vitro culture of cells because it helps simulate aspects of the normal 3-D cellular environment.

“Millipore has always offered ECM vials and standard tissue culture plates but, as a cell culture workflow productivity enhancement we are now making available pre-coated plates,” said Marcy Engelstein, product manager for cell biology products. “We’ll still continue to offer vials of ECM and uncoated plates for researchers who want to prepare the plates themselves. However, the Millicoat plates are ready-to-use and our automated coating process provides a consistent ECM substrate, which can reduce variability in cell culture.”
