Hackensack Meridian Center for Discovery and Innovation Enhances Skin Fibrosis Research with Efficient Serological Pipet Controller

Researchers at Hackensack Meridian Center for Discovery and Innovation (CDI) are using the PIPETBOY GENIUS serological pipet controller from INTEGRA Biosciences to enhance the efficiency of biomarker research for skin fibrosis. The group is advancing efforts to better understand and manage skin fibrosis as a result of chronic graft-versus-host disease (GvHD), a debilitating complication that can occur following stem cell transplantation.

 

Chronic GvHD develops when donor-derived immune cells attack the recipient's tissues, and frequently affects the skin following stem cell transplants. The CDI team is focused on identifying biomarkers that could serve as early warning indicators of disease progression. INTEGRA's PIPETBOY GENIUS serological pipet controller helps the team to efficiently process and analyze patient-derived samples in the lab. Jaemin Byun, a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Hackensack Meridian CDI, explained: “We collect patient samples, harvest fibroblasts as primary cultures and look for signaling molecules associated with fibrosis. Previously, this process required pipetting medium into hundreds of wells individually, which was extremely labor-intensive and exhausting. The PIPETBOY GENIUS is incredibly convenient, and its automatic repeat dispense feature has halved the time it takes.”

The repeat dispense feature aliquots consistent volumes with just the press of a button, eliminating the need to monitor graduation marks during dispensing. Jaemin explained: “With the PIPETBOY GENIUS, I can be confident that it will dispense the exact amount required and achieve reliable results. This is important when working with patient samples, as we may only receive samples once or twice a month, so it is critical that we get it right the first time.”
