The HemoFAXS Bone Marrow Counter is a new HemoFAXS feature package. It can be optionally
installed on existing HemoFAXS systems as well as added to new ones. It is not yet available for the
HemoFAXS 200.
The HemoFAXS Bone Marrow Counter package consists of:
·MarroFAXS software for scanning bone marrow smears
·An optional additional mid-level magnification objective (Zeiss, 40 to 63x, oil or dry), clients choice
·The Bone Marrow Counter software
MarrowFAXS
The MarroFAXS software is available in two configurations, Basic and Xtended.
MarrowFAXS Basic
MarroFAXS Basic scans a preview of a maximum of 8 bone marrow slides. It automatically detects
the smear and better suited areas for higher magnification scanning and subsequent cell counting. Such areas can also be manually drawn by the user.
MarroFAXS Basic has the following additional features:
·Tiled thumbnail scan results view with clickable single FOV view
·Flagging for Rescan of out of focus areas
MarrowFAXS Xtended
MarroFAXS Xtended has the following additional features:
·Stitched zoomable scan results view
·Exportable scan overview to a single image at user definable resolutions
·Flagging for Rescan of out of focus areas
MarroFAXS Xtended scans bone marrow smear slides and saves the images to the harddisk. The whole of the scanned area or the whole smear can be visualized as a digital slide in
We propose a supplementary 40x to 63x oil objective (air objectives are an option) for the automated scanning of the detail images. If no supplementary objective is chosen, a scan with the HemoFAXS 100x oil objective is possible, although slower.
The supplementary objective has to be installed on the HemoFAXS and will be recognized by the TissueFAXS software and available for automated scans.
In a second step, the BMC software allows the user to load the single field of view images of the scanned bone marrow sample and to count the specific cells manually by clicking on them with the mouse.
Each click will increment the count of the selected class and mark it with a colored ring on the image, to avoid mistakes or double counts.
The count result can then be sent to the LIS.

TissueGnostics was established in 2003 after nearly a decade of basic research. The goal was to supply scientists with qualitative and observer independent results for cell and tissue analysis in tissue context and this in automated format and significantly less time.
Katja ?sterreicher, Georg Steiner and Dr. Rupert Ecker, the three co-founders of the company, with the aid of a dozen of development partners (Medical University Vienna, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center New York, Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Cancer Research, Vienna; Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Seattle; Brighamand Women`s Hospital, Boston; etc.) succeeded in reaching this target by 2005.
Since then TissueGnostics expanded worldwide, with subsidiaries in Romania, the US and more than 15 different distributors (incl. Japan, China, Taiwan, France, Russia, Korea, Australia, Philippines, Great Britain, Italy, Kuwait, etc.). In 2008/2009 TissueGnostics completed its product portfolio with the HemoFAXS, differentiated blood smear analysis system, setting a new standard in blood analysis.
The combination of modern and state-of-the art analysis methods for scientific and clinical use in tissue and cell based research with innovative and easy-to-handle software to ensure efficient and reliable diagnostics always was and will be the motivation behind TissueGnostics product developments.
