Porvair Wrexham filtration leader hits the small screen

A Wrexham filtration specialist is hitting the small screen next week in a special showcase of its healthcare expertise.

 

Wrexham Industrial Estate-based Porvair will be part of a documentary that’s set to be broadcast UK-wide on Sunday 7 January at 10am.

 

Entitled ‘Products to Benefit Healthcare’, the programme from Executive Television was filmed back in August at Porvair’s Clywedog Road South facility, and will be shown on Sky digital channel 189.

 

The production features on-screen contributions from General Manager Kevin Doolan and Head of New Product Development Dr David Cowieson.

 

Both discuss the application of filter technology in the medical sector, from specialised components for use in medical devices, the introduction of particulate-free environments in clean rooms that are necessary for cGMP manufacturing, to the clean-up and containing of waste products created during the manufacturing process in the clinical workplace.

 

Porvair – a global producer of high performance filtration and separation technology – features prominently in the 30-minute production, taking up around a third of the running time.

Kevin and David talk through the local facility’s gradual evolution towards delivery of leading healthcare products over more than a decade, starting with relatively low level cleanliness requirements before steadily moving on to the delivery of more critically controlled processes and products.

 

They also discuss the evolution of the Wrexham Industrial Estate site, cataloguing its transformation from a single workplace with porous plastics and metals produced alongside each other in the 1990s, to the addition of a cleanroom in the 00’s.This has been followed by the addition of two further humidity and temperature controlled rooms constructed in 2015 to provide the required clean environment for certain production processes.

Kevin said: “We are very proud of what we do here. Our Wrexham site is the global R&D and manufacturing centre for our BioVyon™ porous plastic materials”.

 

“It is where we design, develop and engineer our new BioVyon™ products – and is the centre of excellence for our medical sector offering.

 

“So it’s fantastic to receive TV exposure for that side of the business, and testament to our status as leaders in our field that our processes are of interest to such a wide audience.

 

“Our appearance in this production is both a recognition of our tireless efforts to develop, manufacture and provide the best products and services available, as well as underlining our intention to continuing doing so as global innovators.

 

“Indeed, continuous improvement is at the heart of what we do. In 2017 we invested significantly in new production equipment as well as introducing automated measurement techniques to fully qualify our materials.  We react to customer feedback, and are always listening to our hard-working staff.

“It says much for Porvair that we have been able to successfully demonstrate our medical sector capability with this new documentary, and we hope that it will provide local people with an interesting insight into what we do.”

 

The show will also be repeated on Sunday 11 February at 10am, again on Sky channel 189.
