The charts below show the sales structure for each product category in Japan. USA/EU suppliers can approach and contact customers directly or receive orders via the website, but in Japan, suppliers (except for contract services) cannot contact the customers directly. The distributors have the access and database to contact them (you are required to establish an account to start business, and this is usually difficult).
So to launch your business in Japan, it is important to promote your products/services at exhibitions and also have good contacts with distributors.
