Final Agenda Is Now Available for Cell & Gene Therapy and co-located 2nd Annual Stem Cell Congress

Production is now complete for the Cell & Gene Therapy Congress with the co-located 2nd Annual Stem Cell Congress and 4th Annual Cell Culture & Bioprocessing Congress taking place on the 9th & 10th November 2015 in London. You can now download the final conference programme here to view who is speaking across the two days.

This Congress is an executive platform for over 170 experts to network, exchange ideas, and discuss the latest innovations in the field. Delegates come from a variety of areas, including cell line development, cell line engineering, up-and-downstream operations, biotechnology, process development, biologics production and more.

This congress offers invaluable insights into key technological and scientific advances, addressing the most pressing challenges in the cell and gene therapy industry from the discovery of novel therapies through to the very latest clinical trial case studies and a look at the future of bringing cell therapies to market. Over two days, the congress will attract senior-level decision makers working at the forefront of the cell therapy industry from the US and Europe. The conference programme consists of world-class keynote addresses, industry and academic led presentations and panel debates, as well as ample networking opportunities, creating an interactive platform for high-level scientific and business discussion.

Our Congress will consist of 2 interactive streams:
 • Cell & Gene Therapy: Development, Clinical Trials & Commercialisation
 • Cell Therapy Bioprocessing

Oxford Global interviewed Gabor Veres, Vice President of Pre-clinical Research and Development at Bluebird Bio and a confirmed speaker of the Congress.

You are speaking on the Recent Progress on Thalassemia & Sickle Cell Gene Therapy at the Congress this year. What are the key challenges for the industry when developing a gene therapy prior to clinical trials?

“This depends on the indications, but I think one thing is that clinical trial design is really important. Some of the earlier failures were contributed to by the fact that the trials were small and not well controlled and didn’t take into account the potential for placebo effect. For example, several clinical trials for Parkinson’s disease have been conducted where the early data was exciting, but did not scale in a Phase II trial. Another problem is that manufacturing capabilities are still under development and whilst that’s clearly improved substantially in the last 10 years or so it’s still not at the level that you can see with other biologics such as monoclonal antibodies or recombinant proteins […]”

There will be over 40 speakers presenting across the two days including:
 • Robert Hariri, Founder, Chairman & CSO, Celgene
 • Sicco Popma, Scientific Director, Stem Cells Research, Janssen
 • Gwen Binder-Scholl, Executive VP, Adaptimmune
 • Gabor Veres, Vice President Pre-Clinical Research, Bluebird Bio
 • Rahul Sarugaser, Vice President, Corporate Development, Hemostemix
