The congress has over 35 presentations and case studies focused on the key issues in formulation, drug delivery and product development, focusing on 4 interactive streams:
- Optimising Formulation
- Improving Drug Delivery
- Formulation and Drug Delivery Strategies
- Product Development Considerations
In the lead up to the congress Bernardo Perez-Ramírez spoke with Oxford Global Conferences to discuss the latest movements within the industry. Bernardo Perez-Ramírez is the Senior Scientific Director of BioFormulations Development at Genzyme Corporation. He is responsible for development of formulations for therapeutic proteins to support phase I/II clinical studies, as well as pre-formulation research, drug delivery strategies and platform technology evaluation.
We asked Bernardo … What particular changes do you think researchers are facing in the field at the moment?
“!The main challenges in the area of formulation and drug delivery continues to be the need for rapid time to market while keeping innovation high, especially in the area of convenience devices for self-administration. Having the right balance is difficult, especially when markets are global with different regulatory requirements and manufacturers and suppliers are located off-shore.”
Bernardo shared with us his thoughts on the latest drug delivery technologies when we asked… Are there any particular drug delivery technologies that you think we should be paying close attention to at the moment?
“I believe that technologies that could offer a manufacturing friendly platform for drug delivery, good compatibility with the active component, as a miniature device, could continue be evolving and become very important in adding convenience to patients.”
