Integrated DNA Technology guides users towards the perfect PCR assay
CORALVILLE, IA – 26 November 2013 – Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT), the world leader in oligonucleotide synthesis, has released its latest issue of DECODED, featuring a PCR guide from scientists at Tetracore (Rockville, USA) who specialize in developing diagnostic qPCR assays for detecting infectious diseases and bio-terrorism agents. Readers will learn how to boost the signal to noise ratio in their PCR assays by choosing the most suitable probe dyes, which is particularly important when it comes to multiplex PCR formats.
Multiplexing is highly beneficial for increasing throughput and efficiency, but the multiple probe dyes in the multiplex mixture create a high level of background fluorescence, even when the probes are quenched. To provide sufficient discrimination for accurate disease detection, Tetracore needed to devise a method to limit this background. Through the use of the ZEN™ Double-Quenched Probes, which includes an internal and 3’ quencher, background fluorescence is significantly reduced. The multiplexing capacity of PCR assays is therefore vastly increased.
IDT’s quarterly newsletter, DECODED, covers a range of relevant topics for researchers relying on DNA technology. For more information please visit www.idtdna.com. Follow us on twitter @idtdna for real-time updates and insights.
