Corning Announces New Closed-System Product Line for Cell Culture Research and Production
Industry’s broadest line of aseptic, single-use products enable researchers to meet new compliance standards, increase competitive advantage and speed to market for biopharmaceutical products
CORNING, N.Y., January, 2012 – Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced an extended line of closed-system laboratory products for cell culture research and production.
The latest offering of disposable products and closed systems enable the aseptic sampling, liquid handling, or transfer of cell culture from one vessel to another. Utilizing tubing sets that fit Corning cell culture and liquid handling vessels, researchers and production teams can diminish the potential for contamination and eliminate the need for cleaning and sterilization, significantly reducing process and scale-up time and costs.
“In today’s biopharmaceutical market, researchers face increasing regulatory pressures, heightened scrutiny of human error and contamination, and an ever-present need to bring products to market faster. As a result, there is an acute demand for single-use bioprocess disposable systems,” said Robb D’Amore, director Channel, Brand and Marketing, Corning Life Sciences. “We are now seeing closed-system solutions like Corning’s becoming much more of a need-to-have than a nice-to-have.”
Corning’s extended-closed system product line tubing sets fit a range of Corning products including centrifuge tubes, media bottles, storage bottles, roller bottles, Erlenmeyer flasks, disposable spinner flasks, CellSTACK® culture chambers, HYPERFlask® vessels, HYPERStack® culture chambers, and CellCube® modules. All tubing sets are assembled in an ISO 6 Clean Room and all products are provided sterile and double bagged for cGMP compliance. Customers can also take advantage of Corning’s configuration specialists who will provide insight and recommendations on designing a system complete with the necessary components as well as providing a drawing and sample for approval. The product line is available today direct from Corning or through its approved channel partners.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to anticipate the needs of our customers and respond accordingly with technologies to help them meet market and legislative demands, we are pleased to offer the industry’s widest line of closed-system products,” said Forrest Roush, business manager, Cells & Bioprocess, Corning Life Sciences.
