Mindray Donates Advanced Ultrasound Machines to Lighthouse to Support Malawi’s National Response to HIV

Hits:231   Date: 1/3/2025
At the beginning of December, Mindray donated two advanced ultrasound machines to Lighthouse Trust to aid in the management of HIV, TB, and Hepatitis B cases.

Lighthouse Trust, a World Health Organization (WHO) recognized Centre of Excellence in HIV management, is a registered public trust dedicated to contributing to Malawi’s national response to HIV. It serves as a model for providing a continuum of high-quality care while building capacity in the health sector.

According to Dr. Lilian Chunda, Chief of Health Services in the Ministry of Health in Malawi, these state-of-the-art machines will accelerate the diagnosis of complications in HIV patients and ease clinicians’ efforts in identifying appropriate treatments.

The donated machines include the Consona N8 Diagnostic Ultrasound System and MX7 General Imaging Ultrasound System. Dr. Tom, clinical advisor to Lighthouse, noted:

“The new machines that we got now allows us to do shear wave elastography, and that will, in a way, allow us to diagnose Hepatitis B-induced liver injury earlier. That is indeed a big, big step for us; it’s in a way a game changer. ”
