Dear Colleagues, I am delighted to invite you to attend and participate in the 15 th World Congress of Pharmacology that will take place in Beijing , China from July 2 nd to 7 th , 2006. This World Congress is organized by the Chinese Pharmacological Society and the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR). Thanks to the input of the member societies of IUPHAR, the Program Committee has been able to put together a scientifically most exciting program of invited lectures, symposia and workshops. We also are confident that a large number of volunteer abstracts will be submitted, and urge you to do so. No need to say that China , in general, and Beijing , in particular are extraordinary appealing in terms of culture and beauty. Dear Colleagues and Friends: On behalf of the National Organizing Committee and Chinese Pharmacological Society , it is my great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the 15 th World Congress of Pharmacology (IUPHAR 2006), to be held in Beijing , China from July 2 nd – 7 th , 2006. This is the first IUPHAR Congress to be held in a major developing country, China . The theme of this Congress is “ Pharmacology in the 21st Century: a Bridge between the Past and the New Molecular Frontiers ”. Suggestions for plenary lectures, symposia and workshops have been received from all over the world, and efforts are being made to develop a program that reflects pharmacology in all of its diversity. With great care a number of plenary lectures, symposia and workshops are being organized for each day of the Congress. Poster presentations are vital for providing an extensive opportunity for scientific exchange and will be held every day. A series of official satellite meetings, which focus on various topics of interest, will be also be held in Xi'an, Shanghai, Changsha, Beijing (China), Osaka and Sapporo (Japan) either before or after the main Congress. Beijing is a historic city and has been the capital of China for more than eight hundred years. It is also the host city of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games , and has undergone rapid modernization in recent years with many interesting sites to tour. Participants and accompanying guests will be able to choose from a number of hotels nearby the Beijing International Convention Center where the Congress will be held. There are many wonderful historical sites and numerous natural beautiful scenic spots in and around the city of Beijing . Special dinners and entertainments will be arranged as part of the Congress activities. In addition, there will be various social activities arranged for accompanying guests. I would like to welcome all of you to attend the Congress and hope you have a most enjoyable stay in Beijing .
