At today’s kick-off press conference in Shanghai, Messe München GmbH and its subsidiaries Munich Trade Fairs (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. and IMAG gave journalists an initial look at the program of events for analytica China 2010. The fair is being held for the fifth time at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) from September 15 – 17, 2010. Organizers see a great deal of market potential, especially in the sectors for biotechnology and instrumental analysis.
China is one of the most rapidly growing markets of the future, which makes it an important sales and investment market for branches of industry such as chemicals and pharmaceuticals. The investments that the Chinese government has planned for the biotechnology sector and a new food-safety law, which will have positive effects, especially on the analysis industry, will increase demand in these sectors even further. Last year, biotechnology generated more than 86 billion CNY in sales. Experts are expecting sales to exceed the one-trillion-CNY mark for 2009 and to reach an impressive four trillion CNY by 2020. Now that growth will be bolstered by a series of measures that the Chinese cabinet passed in June of this year. The Chinese government’s objective is to strengthen biotechnology as a key industry and establish it as a high-tech industry. This strategy will be reinforced by planned investment packages worth a total of some 62.8 billion CNY on the part of the Chinese government and approximately 20 billion CNY by the government of Shanghai .
"These recent developments in China underscore the need for an industry gathering in Shanghai , both for Chinese and international companies. analytica China and its combination of an exhibition, conference and related-events program make it the perfect platform for introducing new products, monitoring trends and exchanging innovative ideas," explains Kurt Schraudy, Head of Business Unit New Technologies, Messe München International, Managing Director IMAG. "We are confident that this event will be just as successful in 2010 as it was the last time it was held."
Approximately 342 exhibitors from 19 countries occupied 17,000 square meters of exhibition space at analytica China in 2008 . A total of 13,146 visitors attended the fair – the largest number of visitors since the fair was founded seven years ago. Organizers are also looking forward to the successful continuation of the scientific conference, which focuses on the sectors for quality control, environmental and food analysis, TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) and the life sciences, and the related-events program in 2010. Among other things, there are plans to hold workshops on subjects such as "Separation Techniques and Spectrometry in Biological and Clinical Analysis" and "Metabolomic Approaches for Biotechnology and Life Sciences".
