Announcement of Application for Young Scientist Program (YSP)

The Young Scientist Program (YSP), which is an important part of IUBMB-2009-Congress, is aimed to provide Ph.D. students and junior postdoctoral fellows from all over the world with opportunities to meet each other, to make friends and to discuss science, career development and future collaborations in an informal and friendly environment. It will be held in Shanghai from July 30th to August 2nd, 2009.

The Organizing Committee will provide 100 competitive fellowships for applicants from all over the world. A successful applicant will receive a fellowship that covers the major part of his/her travel and living expenses during YSP and the main congress.

The applicant should be either a Ph.D. student or a junior postdoctoral fellow within 3 years of obtaining her/his Ph.D. degree. The applicant has not participated in YSP of IUBMB before.

The deadline of application submission is February 28th, 2009 !!!

Young Scientist Program Introduction

The Young Scientist Program (YSP) was started in the 18th IUMBM Congress in 2000 Birmingham. The aim of YSP is to provide Ph.D. students and junior postdoctoral fellows from all over the world with opportunities to meet each other, to make friends and to discuss science, career development and future collaborations in an informal and friendly environment. A YSP meeting will be organized prior to 21st IUBMB Congress as it was. 100 fellows will be selected from the world-wide applicants by the Organizing Committee of YSP. These young scientists were invited to attend both the IUBMB Congress and the YSP meeting where they could discuss their research work via an oral or a poster presentation. A fellowship that covers the major part of his/her travel and living expenses will be provided to every successful applicant.

Eligibility
The applicant should either be a Ph.D. student or a postdoc within 3 years of obtaining her/his Ph.D.degree.
The applicant has not participated in Young Scientist Program of IUBMB before.

Preparation for YSP
Submit one abstract as a first author for the YSP Symposium and the Congress.
Brief Curriculum Vitae (not more than one page).
List of publications with title and journal reference.
A letter briefly describing the reasons why the applicant would benefit from attending YSP.
Recommendation letter from the advisor of the applicant. Each Lab can only recommend one applicant.
Budget for travel costs, indicate (in detail) the level of financial support required , with justification, including travel to Shanghai by APEX/lowest Economy Airfare.
