Biochip technology, which was established in 1990's, is a high-throughput approach for large-scale analysis of mole-cular profiles. Over the last decade, it has been widely accepted and used in functional genomics, disease genomics, pharmacogenomics and other life sciences. Pathological typing predominates disease classification, however, the inconsistency in treatment outcomes strongly demonstrates that the traditional method is not sufficient for clinical diagnosis. To date, biochip technology has been introduced in conducting disease classification around the globe. Exciting research results indicate that the technology could be a powerful tool in this area. In China, both the government and scientists have shown great concern to the progress of this novel research field. During the "Eleventh Five-year" period, "molecular classification of diseases" has been approved as a key project by "863" program comm-ittee and grants were offered to support scientific re-search and industrialization. To provide an opportunity to exchange experiences in molecular disease classification, and to establish future scientific collaborations, we, Shanghai Biochip Company/National Engineering Center for Biochip at Shanghai, will host the symposium in this May. We are pleased to invite your attendance.
Dr. Guoping Zhao, the director of National Engineering Certer for Biochip at Shanghai and an Academician of Chinese Academy of Science(CAS), will be the chairperson. The secretary-general will be Dr. Huasheng Xiao, the vice director of National Engineering Certer for Biochip at Shanghai.
