BioMalaysia Conference & Exhibition 2012 will be held from 5 to 7 November at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.  Since its inception in 2005, the event has grown exponentially.  It is now the largest, regional biotechnology conference & exhibition. The annual event is jointly organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation Sdn Bhd (BiotechCorp) and PROTEMP Exhibitions Sdn Bhd. Set to be the confluence of biotechnology and business; BioMalaysia 2012 will be part of the upcoming World Innovation Forum KL (WIF-KL). It has been identified as one of the four core events and an important component of  WIF-KL. In line with the National Innovation Movement, WIF-KL is set to be a spring board for Malaysia to position herself as a key player in the global innovation for socioeconomic growth.

 

Themed “Driving Innovation and Wealth Creation Through Bioeconomy”, BioMalaysia 2012 Conference is best placed to articulate a longer term vision for bioeconomy.  The exposition will be the key platform for the local, regional and international biotechnology stakeholders and higher learning institutions to showcase leading edge innovations and products.

 

The stage has been set at BioMalaysia 2012 where two major initiatives were launched at the Official Opening by the Honorable Prime Minister of Malaysia namely; the National Biomass Strategy 2020 (NBS) themed ‘Biomass to Wealth’ and the Bioeconomy Initiative Malaysia 2012 (BIM).  BIM marks the nation’s first step towards the making of a sustainable bio- economy. The NBS 2020 has a potential to deliver up to RM30 billion in revenue by 2020.

 

Over the longer term, bio-economy will be shaped by research outcomes which will impact on many socioeconomic. At BioMalaysia 2012 the exhibition will be showcasing innovative products across a wide spectrum from agriculture, pharmaceutical to health sectors and more from major local, regional and international biotechnology companies.  In addition the tradeshow will see a large number of academic participation from the universities, research & development institutes, prominent individual researchers and scientists showcasing their platform technologies.

 

The Conference will be a gathering of top keynote speakers from the international, regional and local markets.  The focus will be on the process of utilizing Malaysia’s biodiversity and turning them into a sustainable and viable bio-economy in line with BIM.  It will cover topics on productivity, pricing such as tools to support market development, property rights, proactive engagement and more.

 

The event is the ideal platform for the biotechnology industrialists, researchers and investors to explore new deals, form research collaborations and invest in Asia’s rapid expansion in the biotechnology industry.
