13th SCBA Conference -Bioscience for 21st Century: Emerging Frontiers and Evolving Concepts

Hits:7322   Date: 6/9/2011

Dear Friends, Colleagues, and fellow SCBA members:

It is with great pleasure that I extend to you a warm invitation to attend the 13th biennial International meeting of the Society of Chinese Bioscientists in America (SCBA) in Guangzhou, China (July 25-29, 2011).  The SCBA is an international society, with a history of over 25 years, established to achieve scientific excellence, to promulgate leadership in science, to promote the visibility of Chinese and Chinese-American scientists, and to provide an important bridge between oriental and occidental cultures. With the increasing movement of global commerce, economy, and science edging towards a Pacific geocenter, SCBA is in a unique position to make special contributions to the development of worldwide bioscience in the coming decades.  Please visit our website www.scbasociety.org to learn more about us and to join as a member.

The title of the 13th SCBA International meeting to be held at the Baiyun International Convention Center, Guangzhou, is “Bioscience for the 21st Century: Emerging Frontiers and Evolving Concepts”.  We anticipate an exciting, cutting-edge meeting with one to two thousand conferees that will span the gamut of topics ranging from biopharmacology, biotechnology, cancer biology, gene regulation, microbiology, immunology, neurosciences, structural biology, stem cells, genomics and more.  Additionally, there will be a publishers’ forum, many biotech exhibitors, and a career job fair.  This is a not-to-be missed event that you will want to attend.

In planning for this meeting, my sincere thanks go to members of our SCBA Advisory Committee, our SCBA Program Committee, our SCBA Council, and our local Committees based in China.  I have special gratitude for our local host and my conference co-chair, Mengfeng Li (Vice President of the Sun Yat-sen University and Dean of the Zhongshan School of Medicine) for his tireless and diligent efforts.   I also wish to acknowledge exceptional help from my SCBA officers YunBo Shi, Juliann Kiang, TC Wu, Richard Zhao, and our webmaster and publicity director Chris Lau.  Finally, as of this writing, we wish to thank several generous early donors who have provided or promised financial contributions to this meeting --- they include the Ming K. Jeang Foundation, Hua Yu and family, and Yun Yen and his cancer foundation.  We expect more donors to step forward, and each will be gratefully acknowledged.

I look forward to meeting and welcoming you in Guangzhou.  Please feel free to contact me with your advice and input.

With kind regards,

Kuan-Teh Jeang
SCBA President 2010-2011
