INTRODUCTION
This manual provides information on how to prepare and start using FR-980A Gel Image Analysis System.
Please read this manual before powering on this product for the first time.

APPLICATIONS
FR-980A Gel Image Analysis System (hardware) is widely used in the field of molecular biology and medical science, especially for the visible (VIS) and ultraviolet-visible (UV) light spectrum analysis of nucleic acid and protein electrophoresis.

USAGE
This product is the hardware part of FR-980A Gel Image Analysis System. To use this product, you need to place the Gel sample in the container, and observe, photo and analyze it though the window or on the computer screen. To use the photo and analysis function, please used the SMART VIEW software provided by FURI Tech.
(1) Preparing for Use
Plug in the power cable, and link to 220 Volt power source. Connect the digital camera and the computer with a USB cable, and the device COM port with the computer COM port with a RS232 cable.
(2) Selecting Light Source:
UV Light Shooting : Power on the device by pushing the POWER button on the control panel. Select LIGHT SOURCE CONTROL on the light control panel, and then select 312nm or 254nm UV light source (Select 312nm UV for observing and imaging, and 254nm for cutting Gel). You can also access Light source selecting function in the control software(The 254nm UV light source for cutting Gel can only be selected on the control panel).
NOTICE: The blue caution light on the panel of the blue light channel will be turned on if the 312nm or 254nm UV light source is selected.
VIS light Shooting: Select the WHITE LIGHT on the Light Source Control panel. Please place the white board (Accessory of the product) into the blue light channel(small drawer),and selected the WHITE LIGHT as the reflective light source and the 312nm UV as the transmissive light source. You can also access these light source selecting function in the control software.
Notice: The light source control system on the control panel of the device and in the control software is independent, so the light source open by the control panel can NOT be turn of in the computer, and vice-versa.
(3) Placing Samples:
By touching the blue light channel(small drawer), you can open it and place the sample. Adjust the magnetic ruler to prevent the sample from sliding.
(4) Adjusting the Image: Adjust the Aperture by the IRIS + - buttons on the LENS CONTROL panel, and get clear image on the computer screen. Then zoom the image to the proper size by the ZOOM + - buttons, and refine the image by adjust the focus by FOCUS + - buttons. The adjusting functions can also be accessed from the control software.
(5) Observing: If you want to observe the sample directly, just put the sample in the small drawer, and then open the big drawer. At the same time, the UV light leak protecting system will be active, and the UV light source will be closed. Pop the UV protecting board behind the big drawer, an the UV light will turn on. Then observe the sample though the observing window with UV protecting coating.
NOTICE: Make sure the observing window pushed back after observing, and shut the big drawer.
(6)Cutting Gel: Select the 254nm UV light source on the Light source control panel. Then open the big drawer, pop the UV protecting board, put your hands in though the two sides of the drawer, and perform the Gel cutting operation.
NOTICE: Put a piece of fresh-keeping film on the sample container before the Gel cutting operation. Make sure the observing window pushed back after observing, and shut the big drawer.
(7) Cleaning: To clean the sample container, pull the small drawer out and turn up to 45°, then get the container of to wash.

MAINTENANCE
To extend the lifetime of FR-980A Gel Image Analysis System hardware, please notice:
(1) DO NOT disassemble the product, or the producer not responsible for warranty.
(2) Place the device in the ventilated dry and dustless environment. Turn off the power when the device is not in use.
(3) The UV filtering sample containing glass in the small drawer is fragile and expensive, please be careful. Keep it clean and avoid the surface scratch.
(4) The white board for VIS shooting is place in the socket under the base of the device. Please place it back after usage.
(5) The UV light lamp has warranty for 3 months. To keep the device in good state, please periodic replace the aging lamps. The replacement operation should be performed by electrician following the manual.
