Overview

Food allergy is an excessive immune response to food protein. About 6-8% of children have allergic symptoms to food, and about 2% of adults have allergic symptoms too. In recent years, due to environmental factors, the proportion of allergies increased. Common allergenic foods include seafood, peanut, nut, cereals, milk and egg; Hazelnut (Corylus avellana) belongs to the birch plants. Hazelnut contains 13% protein, which is very high. Many of these proteins are known for being allergenic, such as Cora 9 and Cora 11. These allergen are heat resistant, they are stable even through different production processes. Therefore, hazelnut is an important food allergen. For hazelnut allergic persons, hidden hazelnut allergens in food are a critical problem. Even very low amounts of hazelnuts can cause allergic reactions, which may lead to anaphylactic shock in severe cases. Therefore, hazelnut allergic persons must strictly avoid contact with hazelnut containing foods.

Sensitivity

0.25 ppm Hazelnut protein.

For environment swab the sensitivity is 0.125 μg /100 cm2.

Note: LOD (limit of determination) = Sensitivity ×Dilution Ratio.

Specificity

No cross-reaction with milk, apricot kernel, egg, peanut, shrimp, gluten, soy, cashew, walnut and almond.
