Thanks to their ability to interfere with the synthesis of nucleic acids and cellular repair systems, nucleoside derivatives act as anticancer agents and as sensitizers to radio-and chemotherapy. They are also antimicrobial agents and used as antibiotics, antifungals and antivirals. This group of molecules has applications also in agrochemistry and have been used as herbicides and insecticides.
