Adenoviruses (members of the family Adenoviridae) are medium-sized (90–100 nm), nonenveloped (without an outer lipid bilayer) viruses with an icosahedral nucleocapsid containing a double stranded DNA genome. Their name derives from their initial isolation from human adenoids in 1953. They have a broad range of vertebrate hosts; in humans, more than 50 distinct adenoviral serotypes have been found to cause a wide range of illnesses, from mild respiratory infections in young children (known as the common cold) to life-threatening multi-organ disease in people with a weakened immune system.

Rat Adenovirus Antibody (FL/K87-Ab) ELISA Kit employs the competitive enzyme immunoassay technique. The microtiter plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to FL/K87-Ab. Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microtiter plate wells with a Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP)-conjugated FL/K87-Ab and incubated. The competitive inhibition reaction is launched between with HRP labeled FL/K87-Ab and unlabeled FL/K87-Ab with the antibody. A substrate solution is added to the wells and the color develops in opposite to the amount of FL/K87-Ab in the sample. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
