NAMPT encodes a protein that catalyzes the condensation of nicotinamide with 5-phosphoribosyl-1-pyrophosphate to yield nicotinamide mononucleotide, one step in the biosynthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. The protein belongs to the nicotinic acid phosphoribosyltransferase (NAPRTase) family and is thought to be involved in many important biological processes, including metabolism, stress response and aging. This gene has a pseudogene on chromosome 10.

Pig Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate NAMPT in samples. An antibody specific for NAMPT has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyNAMPT present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for NAMPT is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of NAMPT bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
