CDC6 encoded by this gene is highly similar to Saccharomyces cerevisiae Cdc6, a protein essential for the initiation of DNA replication. This protein functions as a regulator at the early steps of DNA replication. It localizes in cell nucleus during cell cyle G1, but translocates to the cytoplasm at the start of S phase. The subcellular translocation of this protein during cell cyle is regulated through its phosphorylation by Cdks. Transcription of this protein was reported to be regulated in response to mitogenic signals through transcriptional control mechanism involving E2F proteins.

Mouse Cell division control protein 6 homolog (CDC6) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate CDC6 in samples. An antibody specific for CDC6 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyCDC6 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for CDC6 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of CDC6 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
