Norepinephrine (NE), also called noradrenaline (NA) or noradrenalin, is an organic chemical in the catecholamine family that functions in the brain and body as a hormone and neurotransmitter. In the brain, norepinephrine is produced in closely packed brain cell neurons or nuclei that are small yet exert powerful effects on other brain areas. The most important of these nuclei is the locus coeruleus, located in the pons. Outside the brain, norepinephrine is used as a neurotransmitter by sympathetic ganglia located near the spinal cord or in the abdomen, and it is also released directly into the bloodstream by the adrenal glands. Regardless of how and where it is released, norepinephrine acts on target cells by binding to and activating noradrenergic receptors located on the cell surface.

Mouse Noradrenaline (NA) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate NA in samples. An antibody specific for NA has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyNA present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for NA is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of NA bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
