Meat speciation is carried out for a number of economic, ethical and religious concerns. The importance of meat speciation has been recently highlighted in the UK, where foods sold as containing processed beef also contained significant levels of horse meat.
PCRBIO Meat Speciation kits have been designed to detect extremely low copy number targets specifically and with high efficiency. PCR amplification is performed using qPCRBIO SyGreen Mix allowing for sensitive and accurate quantification with high efficiency. Proprietary small molecular inhibitor technology prevents formation of primer dimers and non-specific products leading to improved reaction sensitivity and specificity.
When combined with the PCR Biosystems Meat DNA extraction kit a complete, pre-validated system for meat speciation removes the need for user optimisation. The extraction kit is a closed tube system, minimising contamination risk and providing high quality mitochondrial DNA for subsequent qPCR.
