BackgroundCMTM6, also known as CKLF-like MARVEL transmembrane domain-containing 6, is a transmembrane protein encoded by the CMTM6 gene, located on chromosome 3. It belongs to the CKLF-like MARVEL transmembrane domain-containing family, which consists of nine members and is involved in various biological processes including autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases, the male reproductive system, hematopoiesis, and cancer development. CMTM6 has been identified as a critical regulator of PD-L1, an immune checkpoint protein. It stabilizes PD-L1 on the cell surface by preventing its lysosome-mediated degradation and ubiquitination, thereby enhancing the ability of tumor cells to evade immune surveillance. High expression of CMTM6 is associated with poor prognosis in several types of cancer, such as glioma, hepatocellular carcinoma, and triple-negative breast cancer. bio-equip.cn
