BackgroundFerritin Heavy Chain (FTH1) is a subunit of the iron storage protein Ferritin, primarily responsible for the oxidation and storage of iron ions to maintain cellular iron homeostasis and prevent iron-mediated oxidative damage. FTH1 possesses ferroxidase activity, enabling it to oxidize toxic ferrous iron (Fe虏鈦? into stable ferric iron (Fe鲁鈦? and store it within the Ferritin protein shell. It plays a critical role in regulating iron metabolism, antioxidant stress, and cellular protection, with its expression modulated by iron levels, oxidative stress, and inflammatory signals. Dysfunction of FTH1 is associated with various diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders, cancer, and iron overload conditions. Additionally, FTH1 is involved in immune regulation and apoptosis processes. bio-equip.cn
