BackgroundFlotillin-1 is a lipid raft marker protein that is involved in a variety of cellular physiological activities and is associated with the development of many types of cancer. In terms of cellular functions, Flotillin-1 helps maintain cell membrane structure, participates in signal transduction, is involved in endocytosis, and plays a role in cell adhesion. It interacts with various signaling molecules to form signaling complexes that regulate intracellular signaling pathways. For example, it associates with Src kinase and is involved in processes such as cell growth, differentiation, and apoptosis. Flotillin-1 has also been implicated in the pathology of several diseases. It is highly expressed in lung adenocarcinoma, breast cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma, and its expression is associated with poor prognosis and low overall survival rates. Flotillin-1 is involved in the activation of signaling pathways, such as the IGF-1 receptor, and it plays a role in the intracellular localization and signaling function of this receptor. Moreover, Flotillin-1 has been shown to be essential for the efficient sorting of T cell receptors into Rab11a vesicles for fusion with the plasma membrane, indicating its role in immune cell function. In terms of neurological diseases, Flotillin-1 has been linked to neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson's disease, where its expression levels are significantly elevated in the substantia nigra/ventral tegmental area. bio-equip.cn
