INTENDED USE
Rotavirus/Adenovirus Antigen Rapid Test Kit is a rapid visual immunoassay for qualitative
detection of Rotavirus/Adenovirus antigen in infant stool. This kit is intended for use as an aid in
the diagnosis of Rotavirus/Adenovirus infection.
INTRODUCTION
Rotavirus accounts for more than 90% of rotavirus gastroenteritis in infant and young children
from 6 months to 2 years of age. Rotavirus gastroenteritis is a mild to severe disease
characterized by vomiting, watery diarrhoea, and dehydration. Once a child is infected by the
virus, there is an incubation period of about 24-48 hours before symptoms appear. Symptoms
often start with vomiting followed by four to eight days of profuse diarrhoea. Dehydration is
more common in rotavirus infection than in most of those caused by bacterial pathogens, and is
the most common cause of death related to rotavirus infection. Gastroenteritis in infant and
young children, 40-50% is infected by Rotavirus .worldwide 600,000-800,000 children and
infants are died from Rotavirus infection each year, most of them live in developing countries.
Adenoviruses are a group of viruses that can infect the membranes (tissue linings) of the
respiratory tract, eyes, intestines, and urinary tract. They account for about 10% of acute
respiratory infections in kids and are a frequent cause of diarrhea. 2%-22% diarrhea cases in
infant and young children are infected by adenovirus, and it is the second pathogen of diarrhea.
Once a child is infected by the Adenoviruses, there is an incubation period of about 10 days
before symptoms appear. The serious symptom is diarrhea.
PRINCIPLE
This kit is designed for qualitative detection of Rotavirus/Adenovirus antigens in the specimen
through antigen antibody reaction with high degree of specificity and immune chromatography
analysis.
The membrane was immobilized with rotavirus antibodies-specific on the test well
(R) ,adenovirus antibodies-specific on the test well (A) and corresponding antibodies on the
control well(C).During testing, the diluted stool sample is added to the sample well(S) of the test
cassette and reacts with anti-rotavirus/adenovirus antibodies conjugated to colored particles and
precoated onto the sample pad of the test. Then, the mixture migrates through the membrane by
capillary action and interacts with reagents on the membrane. if the rotavirus or adenovirus is
positive, a colored band will form at test well(R) or (A), if both rotavirus and adenovirus are
positive, colored bands will form at both test wells (R and A). The colored band indicates a positive
result, while its absence indicates a negative result. No matter if the rotavirus /adenovirus antigen
exist or not, red band will appear in control well (C), The appearance of a colored band at the
control well(C) serves as a procedural control, indicating that the proper volume of specimen has
been added and membrane wicking has occurred.
STORAGE AND STABILITY
The kit can be stored at room temperature or refrigerated (2-30°C). The test device is stable
through the expiration date printed on the sealed pouch. The test device must remain in the sealed
pouch until use. DO NOT FREEZE. Do not use beyond the expiration date.
