This enzyme catalyses the following chemical reaction. Hydrolysis of terminal, non-reducing beta-D-mannose residues in beta-D-mannosidesThis gene encodes a member of the glycosyl hydrolase 2 family. The encoded protein localizes to the lysosome where it is the final exoglycosidase in the pathway for N-linked glycoprotein oligosaccharide catabolism. Mutations in this gene are associated with beta-mannosidosis, a lysosomal storage disease that has a wide spectrum of neurological involvement.

Mouse Beta mannosidase (β-Manase) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MANBA in samples. An antibody specific for MANBA has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyMANBA present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MANBA is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MANBA bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
