The protein encoding Meis3 belongs to the three amino acid loop extension family of homeodomain transcription factors, which play essential roles in many embryonic processes. These proteins are characterized by an atypical homeodomain containing a three amino acid loop extension between helices 1 and 2. Expression of Meis3 begins during the compaction stage of embryogenesis and continues into the blastocyst stage. This gene is also expressed in pancreatic islet cells and beta-cells and regulates beta-cell survival. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
Mouse Homeobox protein Meis3 (MEIS3) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MEIS3 in samples. An antibody specific for MEIS3 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyMEIS3 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MEIS3 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MEIS3 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
