Latent-transforming growth factor beta-binding protein 1 belongs to the family of latent TGF-beta binding proteins (LTBPs). The secretion and activation of TGF-betas is regulated by their association with latency-associated proteins and with latent TGF-beta binding proteins.The product of this gene targets latent complexes of transforming growth factor beta to the extracellular matrix, where the latent cytokine is subsequently activated by several different mechanisms. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.

Mouse Latent-transforming growth factor beta-binding protein 1 (LTBP1) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate LTBP1 in samples. An antibody specific for LTBP1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyLTBP1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for LTBP1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of LTBP1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
