Adenoviruses (members of the family Adenoviridae) are medium-sized (90–100 nm), nonenveloped (without an outer lipid bilayer) viruses with an icosahedral nucleocapsid containing a double stranded DNA genome. Their name derives from their initial isolation from human adenoids in 1953. They have a broad range of vertebrate hosts; in humans, more than 50 distinct adenoviral serotypes have been found to cause a wide range of illnesses, from mild respiratory infections in young children (known as the common cold) to life-threatening multi-organ disease in people with a weakened immune system.

Human Adenovirus IgA (ADV-IgA) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate ADV-IgA in samples. An antibody specific for ADV-IgA has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyADV-IgA present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for ADV-IgA is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of ADV-IgA bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
