NFAT binds to a sequence in the interleukin 2 gene enhancer known as the antigen receptor response element 2. In addition, NFAT can bind RNA and is an essential component for encapsidation and protein priming of hepatitis B viral polymerase. NFAT is a heterodimer of 45 kDa and 90 kDa proteins, the smaller of which is the product of this gene. The encoded protein binds strongly to the 90 kDa protein and stimulates its ability to enhance gene expression.The NF45 gene encodes a 405-amino acid polypeptide with distant similarity to DNA topoisomerase II and a prokaryotic RNA polymerase that melts DNA to initiate transcription. NF45 and NF90 were expressed in several cell types, including both unstimulated and stimulated Jurkat T cells.

Human Interleukin enhancer-binding factor 2 (ILF2/NF45/PRO3063) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate ILF2 in samples. An antibody specific for ILF2 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyILF2 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for ILF2 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of ILF2 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
