Cytochrome b is comprised of a light chain (alpha) and a heavy chain (beta). CYBA encodes the light, alpha subunit which has been proposed as a primary component of the microbicidal oxidase system of phagocytes. Mutations in CYBA are associated with autosomal recessive chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), that is characterized by the failure of activated phagocytes to generate superoxide, which is important for the microbicidal activity of these cells.

Human Cytochrome b-245 light chain (CYBA) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate CYBA in samples. An antibody specific for CYBA has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyCYBA present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for CYBA is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of CYBA bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
