CYP2C18 encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum but its specific substrate has not yet been determined. CYP2C18 is located within a cluster of cytochrome P450 genes on chromosome 10q24. An additional gene, CYP2C17, was once thought to exist; however, CYP2C17 is now considered an artefact based on a chimera of CYP2C18 and CYP2C19. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for CYP2C18.

Human Cytochrome P450 2C18 (CYP2C18) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate CYP2C18 in samples. An antibody specific for CYP2C18 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyCYP2C18 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for CYP2C18 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of CYP2C18 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
