Galectin-3-binding protein is a protein encoded by the LGALS3BP gene. The galectins are a family of beta-galactoside-binding proteins implicated in modulating cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. LGALS3BP has been found elevated in the serum of patients with cancer and in those infected by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).It appears to be implicated in immune response associated with natural killer (NK) and lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cell cytotoxicity. Using fluorescence in situ hybridization the full length 90K cDNA has been localized to chromosome 17q25. The native protein binds specifically to a human macrophage-associated lectin known as Mac-2 and also binds galectin 1.
Human Galectin-3-binding protein (LGALS3BP) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate LGALS3BP in samples. An antibody specific for LGALS3BP has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyLGALS3BP present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for LGALS3BP is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of LGALS3BP bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
